The Turbo might be a bit better, but there is no reason to buy a Veloster. It’s so slow.
It also sounds like it’s dying on startup.

Does it have the double clutch or the manual?

I wonder how that would end.

Yikes that’s pretty damning from the Slowrunner owner.

I don't mind the slowness, but the rear suspension behavior is an instant deal-breaker for me.

I think porsche9146 has one... or someone here does

That was my finding as well. The Elantra GT is a much better car to drive. The Veloster is “funky” but that doesn’t excuse it’s otherwise complete mediocrity.
The Elantra Touring (i30-SW/Kia Cee’d) was even better.

Apparently they’re very bad. And that comes from a friend who once had a Versa.

The N/A motor’s slowness mixed with being on an old Accent chassis makes this a car someone buys for its funky looks and not much more.
I've also read the rear torsion beam is very twitchy and weird acting.

Agreed. I used to own a touring, but now I dd a GT. I test drove the veloster, and I couldn’t figure out why they would saddle it with such an underpowered engine when the 2.0 in the GT is pushing 173. That’s about 130 hp in non-turbo spec, isn't it?

The veloster got oddly unsettled over bumps that only hit one side of the car (either left or right side track). It was a rear end lateral shimmy that just didn’t feel right. Thankfully the GT doesn’t behave that way.

And yet i hear they’re great for autocross.

The GT is gutsier than the old Touring, but I miss (well, ok, I don’t really, because I own a FieSTa now, but you know what I mean...) the way the rear-end behaved on that thing. Planted as hell unless you didn’t want it to be, then it would rotate on trail-braking all you needed to kill the understeer. I had the rear lower sub-frame brace and strut tower brace and good rubber on mine and it was despised by the WRX-bros at autocross. Good, solid, little car that thing was.

What do you expect, it’s an Accent with a more impractical body.

Where did you purchase the braces? The creaking from my roof rack when I go around corners quickly reminds me just how much flex the car is experiencing, and I’ve thought about adding bracing before attempting autocross with it.

Well, I may also DD a competitor now... But the competitor is better in every way.

I’ve heard that on autocross too. Ironic that its slow and quirky as a DD but good for cone killing.

unpopular opinion time... I rather like how they look. Especially from the back.
But I’ve never driven one and have only heard terrible things.

I love the looks, but I wouldn’t buy one. And I was in the market, and I bought what was behind it.

Probably a better choice anyway. Easier to say, instead of telling people you drive a HY-un-Dye Veh-law-stir and they think you’ve had a stroke.

Until you've driven the turbo you don't get to call them slow

Nah, it’s slow.
